Fact Check: Image of Pakistan Army Officer And Minister Viral with Misleading Claims

Date:

An image showing a man wearing a Pakistan Army uniform on the right side sitting and having a meeting with a middle-aged man is going viral on social media. While sharing this image, some people claim that it shows a secret meeting between Nadeem Anjum, chief of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, and Saif al-Adel, the new chief of Al-Qaeda.

(English translation: Emperor Modi made Pakistan dependent even on flour, so he also did a trick. CIA has recently released a picture of an intelligence meeting. They are ISI head Nadeem Anjum and Al Qaeda chief Saif al Adal. The purpose of this meeting how to carry out terrorist attacks in India. Stay united Sanatanis)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

We found a news report by First Post carrying the same viral image, dated February 23, 2023, with a caption: “Balochistan minister for communication and works Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran (left) has been arrested over Barkhan murders.” We also found Balochistan Minister Sardar Abdul Rehman’s photo published on the official government website.

According to some other media reports, three bullet-riddled bodies were recovered from Khetran’s house recently. He was accused of running a private jail in his house. After this incident came to the fore, there were demonstrations against him and he was arrested.

On searching for the name ‘YOUSAF’ written on the uniform of the man in the image, we traced some news reports informing that he is Pakistan Army officer Major General Mohammad Yusuf Majoka. Majoka is the Inspector General (IG) of the Frontier Corps (North) of the Pakistan Army based in Quetta, capital of Balochistan.

At the same time, Nadeem Anjum (as mentioned in the viral post), the head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI,  has also been the IG of Frontier Corps in Balochistan.

Searching further to find out who is the new chief of al-Qaeda, we identified more media reports after the death of chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in a US drone attack last year. The command of this dreaded terrorist organisation is now in the hands of Saif al-Adel. The man seen in the news report does not match with the person seen in the viral image.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the image of the Pakistan minister and army officer is being shared with misleading claims.
