NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be misleading.
Running a Google Keyword Search for the headline of the news clipping, we traced a news article from six years back, published on Dainik Bhaskar. The article’s headline and content match exactly with the viral clipping, but we couldn’t find any image in the same.
Searching further, we came across a Facebook post from January 30, 2017, published on the official handle of BJP Punjab. The photo shows the same clipping and informs that it was published in Dainik Bhaskar newspaper on the same day.
The post criticises Mann and calls out his hypocrisy for making Punjab drugs-free while himself being in a state of drunkenness.
We also found a tweet by Prashant Bhushan from January 30, 2017, criticising Mann for being drunk in his own party meeting.
This confirms that the newspaper clipping is at least six years old and has nothing to do with the arrest of Manish Sisodia or any other recent events.
Therefore, based on our investigation, we can conclusively say that the viral post, showing a newspaper clipping of drunk Bhagwant Mann and claiming that is how he expressed his grief for Sisodia’s arrest, is misleading.
