Performing a Reverse Image Search on keyframes from the viral video, we traced a Facebook post carrying the same viral video on December 10, 2020. This clearly means that the video is not recent.
Facebook and Twitter have carried several posts with images of an inverted effigy that were published in December 2020.
Several of these photos included hashtags like “Take Back Farm Laws” and stated that they were from a Punjabi farmers’ demonstration. A Punjab Kesari news report had also included a picture of a crane lifting PM Modi’s upside-down effigy, which was encircled by a mob. It had an appearance akin to the one in the popular video. According to the source, this picture was taken at a farmers’ demonstration in Lohian Khas, a town in Punjab.
