Washington: India conveyed its strong protest to the United States after A group of pro-Khalistan supporters allegedly attacked the Indian Consulate in San Francisco with videos of supporters barging into the office surfaced across social media platforms.
“In a meeting with the US Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi, India conveyed its strong protest at the vandalisation of the property of the Consulate General of India, San Francisco,” the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
According to media reports, Graffiti’s of ‘Free Amritpal’ were reportedly painted on the walls.

“The US Government was reminded of its basic obligation to protect and secure diplomatic representation. It was asked to take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents,” the statement added.
Later, the United States on Monday (local time) ‘strongly’ condemned the attack by the group of separatist Sikhs, terming it absolutely unacceptable.
“That vandalism, it’s just absolutely unacceptable,” John Kirby, National Security Council Coordinator for strategic communications at the White House told reporters at a daily news conference.
“The State Department’s diplomatic security service is working with local authorities. I can’t speak for the San Francisco police, but I can say that the diplomatic security service is working with local authorities to properly investigate and obviously, the State Department is going to be working from an infrastructure perspective to repair the damage, but it’s unacceptable,” Kirby said in response to a question.
Earlier on Sunday, the Indian flag was pulled down at the Indian High Commission in UK by the people protesting against the crackdown operation carried out by India against Amritpal Singh, a Khalistan sympathiser and chief of ‘Waris De Punjab’ group.
