Surat: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to challenge the conviction against the two-year sentence in criminal defamation case over ‘Modi surname’ remark on April 3.
According to PTI sources, Rahul Gandhi will reportedly remain present in the session court when the plea will be filed challenging the lower court’s order sentencing him to two years in jail.
The report further added that “Senior state and national leaders of the Congress will accompany him to Surat.”
Earlier on March 23, Chief Magistrate HH Varma convicted Gandhi and sentenced him to two years in jail in a 2019 criminal defamation case filed against him over his remark. He was found guilty under IPC sections 499 and 500.
Rahul Gandhi was further disqualified from Lok Sabha following the Surat court’s conviction.
