FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Looking closely at the woman in the video, we could notice that she didn’t look like the singer Celine Dion. So, running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we identified a YouTube video on the official channel of Good Morning America, dated July 27, 2022, with a title: The story behind viral video of son dancing with mom who has ALS at Wedding l GMA.
The video matches the viral clip and the description informs that the woman in the video is Kathy, who has ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) a rare neurological disease that affects motor neurons. Kathy is seen dancing with her son Zak Poirier on his wedding day.
Searching further, we came across a news article titled: Mom with ALS stands, shares mother-son wedding dance with help from her sons, published on May 20, 2022, on Fox News.
The video in the report has been shot from a different angle, but the article corroborates the claim made in the YouTube video. We found a similar article on other news websites like Daily Mail, NDTV, and India Times.
Also, Celine Dion’s latest pictures on her Instagram account confirmed that the woman in the viral video is not her.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video, claiming Celine Dion recently got diagnosed with a rare neurological condition known as stiff-person syndrome, is fabricated.
