Putting the keyframes of the video through the Reverse Image Search, we spotted the same video uploaded on YouTube, dated April 23, 2023, mentioning that it is from Myanmar.
The title reads: Deadly Tornado Strikes Naypyidaw, Myanmar.
On searching further, we found the same video shared by Tachileik News Agency — a media outlet from Myanmar. Tachileik News Agency shared the video on April 22, 2023, with a title (translated): Tachileik News Agency: Tornado in Naypyitaw, Lewe Township.
According to a report by The Independent, ‘A tornado that hit two villages — Aung Myin Kone and Tadau — near Naypyitaw in central Myanmar, has left eight people dead and over 100 injured. The report also featured the tweet with the above video.
As per the Hindustan Times report, major tornadoes are rare in Myanmar, and smaller tornadoes that occur in the pre-monsoon period rarely cause death or serious damage.
“During this [summer and pre-monsoon] period, there are frequent tornadoes in the lower parts of Myanmar, but with few casualties. These kind of fatalities in central Myanmar are rare,” Kyaw Moe Oo, director-general at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, told AP.
Thus, it is clear that the video is from Myanmar and not India.
