AAP To Take Part In Joint Opposition Meeting In Bengaluru On July 17-18

Date:

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday made an announcement after the Congress took a stance against the Central government’s ordinance regarding the control of administrative services in Delhi. AAP declared their participation in the upcoming opposition party meeting, scheduled to be held in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on July 17–18.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha confirmed to the media that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, will participate in the upcoming opposition meeting in Bengaluru.

“Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal will take part in the meeting of like-minded parties in Bengaluru on July 17-18,” said Chadha.

Following the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee, Chadha stated that the Congress party has clearly declared its opposition to the ordinance, solidifying their position on the matter.

“Congress party today made its stand clear and said that it will oppose the Delhi ordinance,” said Chadha after the meeting.

Earlier, after the first opposition meeting in Patna, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced that they would not participate in the next opposition meeting unless the Congress party opposes the ordinance.

Following which, in a statement to ANI, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal emphasised the party’s ‘very clear’ position on the matter, affirming that they will oppose the ordinance in parliament.

Opposition parties are joining forces in Bengaluru to unite against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming 2024 general assembly polls. Over 24 political party leaders will attend the second Opposition unity meeting organised by the Congress, aimed at amplifying the collective voice of the opposition. Earlier, an opposition meeting took place in Patna, Bihar, on June 23, setting the stage for further strategic collaborations.

The Central government enforced an ordinance on May 19, taking control of the transfer and posting of IAS and DANICS officers in Delhi.

The ordinance was brought in after the Supreme Court decision that provided the elected government authority over transfers of bureaucrats, with the exception of issues involving the police, public order, and land. The ordinance has sparked a renewed dispute between the Center and the Delhi government over administrative jurisdiction.
