FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we spotted an Instagram post, dated June 28, 2023, on an unverified profile. The video matches the viral clip and the caption and content on the video are written in Bengali, suggesting the video might be from West Bengal.
Given that the post was done in June, it cannot be related to the situation in Delhi as the water level mark in the Yamuna river breached the all-time record of 207.49 metres on July 12, 2023, causing flooding in parts of Delhi-NCR.
Searching further, we came across a longer video on Facebook, dated June 23, 2022, on an unverified handle. The caption of the video suggests that the clip is from Silchar, Assam, and the date of posting confirms that the video has been online since June 2022.
Although we could not independently verify the original source of the video, the date of posting of the Facebook video confirms that it is not related to the recent floods in Delhi.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming engineering students were stuck in their hostel due to ongoing floods in Delhi, is false.
