New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday granted permission for the No Confidence Motion against the Government, which was moved by the opposition.
“I will discuss with the leaders of all parties and inform you of an appropriate time to take this up for discussion,” Birla said.
Earlier, the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) submitted notices in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, seeking a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government over the Manipur violence issue.
Congress’s deputy leader in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, submitted a notice to the Secretary General’s office. Simultaneously, Nageshwar Rao, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) floor leader, led by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, also submitted a separate notice for a no-confidence motion to the Speaker.
Gaurav Gogoi is an MP from the northeast region, representing Kaliabor constituency in Assam.
The opposition I.N.D.I.A. alliance parties made the decision to bring a no-confidence motion during a meeting held on Tuesday.
Protests have erupted in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha as opposition parties demand a detailed discussion on the Manipur violence and seek a statement from the Prime Minister regarding the matter.
Since the monsoon session of Parliament commenced on July 20, both houses have witnessed frequent adjournments due to the ongoing opposition sloganeering.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the government is ready for a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the ongoing violence in Manipur.
