Date:

New Delhi: The INDIA bloc’s no-confidence motion was defeated in the Lok Sabha on Thursday following a walkout by the Opposition parties during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech.

HIGHLIGHTS

Prime Minister Replies to No-Confidence Motion

“The trust of the people of the country shown in our government again and again – I am here to show my gratitude to the crores of the people of the country.”

“God is very kind and speaks through some medium…I believe that it’s the blessing of God that opposition has brought this motion. I had said during the no-confidence motion in 2018 that it was not a floor test for us but a floor test for them and as a result they lost in the elections…”

“In a way, Opposition’s No Confidence has always been lucky for us. Today, I can see that you (Opposition) have decided that NDA and BJP will come back in 2024 elections with a grand victory, breaking all previous records, with the blessings of the people.”

“Our focus should be on the development of the country…It is the need of the hour. Our youth have the power to make dreams come true…We’ve given corruption-free govt, aspirations and opportunities to the youth of the country.”

“We’ve taken India’s reputation to greater heights but there are some people who are trying to tarnish the image of our country in the world but today the world’s trust in India is increasing…”

“Through their conduct, a few Opposition parties have proven that for them Party is above Nation. I think you don’t care about the hunger of the poor but the hunger for power is on your mind.”

“Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) recorded its highest-ever revenue. Despite their (opposition’s) allegations, HAL has emerged as the pride of the country. They said many things about LIC that the money of the poor will sink but today LIC is getting stronger. ‘Share market vale logo ke liye yeh mantra hai ki jis bhi sarkari company ko yeh gaali de usme daanv laga do acha hi hone vala hai..”

“When we say that we will make our economy the third largest economy in the next 5 years, a responsible opposition would have asked questions as to how will we do it but ‘Yeh bhi mujhe hi sikhana pada raha hai’.

“…If Congress says that everything will happen on its own, it means Congress has neither policy nor intention or vision or understanding of global economic system or India’s economic world’s strength…”

“People of the country have no confidence in Congress. Due to arrogance, they are not able to see the reality. In Tamil Nadu, they won in 1962 and since 1962 the people of Tamil Nadu are saying ‘No Congress’. In West Bengal they won in 1972, people of West Bengal are also saying ‘No Congress’. In UP, Bihar, and Gujarat they won in 1985 and the people of these states are also saying ‘No Congress’…”

“Their trouble is such that they had to take the support of NDA to keep themselves alive. But, out of habit, the arrogance of ‘I’ doesn’t leave them alone. That is why, they inserted two ‘I’s of arrogance in NDA. First ‘I’ – the arrogance of 26 parties and the second ‘I’ – the arrogance of one family. They stole NDA too. They also broke India – I.N.D.I.A.”

“I want to express my sympathy with the opposition because a few days ago you performed the last rites of UPA in Bengaluru. On one hand, you were performing last rites par aap jashan bhi mana rahe the aur jashan bhi kis cheez ka- khandhar par naya plaster lagane ka…I want to tell the opposition that you are following those who even after so many generations are not able to differentiate between Lal mirch and Hari mirch’…”

“It is true that Lanka was not set ablaze by Hanuman, it was set ablaze by his (Ravan) arrogance. People are also like Lord Ram and that is why you have been reduced to 40 from 400. People elected full majority government twice but it is troubling you that how come a poor man is sitting here and this is not letting you sleep and the people of the country will not let you sleep even in 2024. There was a time when cakes were cut in aeroplanes on birthdays, but today vaccines are being sent for the poor in those aeroplanes…”

“This ‘Ghamandiya’ alliance is a guarantee of double-digit inflation, corruption, policy paralysis, instability, appeasement, dynasty, unemployment, violence and terrorism. It is Modi’s guarantee that in my third term, India will be among the top three economies in the world…”

“Both the state and central governments are doing everything possible to ensure that the accused get the strictest punishment. I want to assure the people that peace will be restored in Manipur in the coming time. I want to tell the people of Manipur including women and daughters of Manipur that the country is with you…”

“The politics of Congress is responsible for the condition of Manipur. Congress party is the mother of all problems in Northeast.”

  • Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury says “The power of no-confidence motion has brought the Prime Minister in the Parliament today. None of us were thinking about this no-confidence motion. We were only demanding that PM Modi should come to the Parliament and speak on the Manipur issue. We were not demanding any BJP member to come to the Parliament, we were only demanding our PM to come”

  • TMC MP Mahua Moitra speaks against the government

“We are here to ask the question in our ‘tum abhi chup raho’ republic where the PM tells a Governor ‘chup raho’. We as elected MPs in this House are routinely told ‘chup raho’. This motion is to break this code of silence in Manipur. PM Modi will not listen to us, he will come on the last day and give his speech. I don’t know what is more unfortunate, our PM refuses to come to the Parliament or that he refuses to go to Manipur”

  • Congress, NCP and DMK MPs staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha as Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was speaking.

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addresses the Lok Sabha

“So, India is in a rare position of being optimistic and positive about its future growth.”

“Words like ‘banega, milega’ are not in use anymore. What are the people using these days? ‘Ban gaye, mil gaye, aa gaye’. During UPA, people said ‘Bijli aayegi’, now people say ‘Bijli aa gayi’. They said ‘gas connection milega’, now ‘gas connection mil gaya’…They said airport ‘banega’, now airport ‘ban gaya’…”

“UPA wasted an entire decade because there was a lot of corruption and cronyism. Today, every crisis and adversity has been changed into a reform and an opportunity.”

“We have realised that the banking sector needs to be healthy and therefore we took a lot of measures. Banks are able to work without political interference, they are working with professional integrity. ‘Banks mein failaya hua aapka raita hum saaf kar rahe hai’.”

  • PM Modi to be present to hear LoP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s speech in Lok Sabha: BJP Sources to ANI
  • PM Modi will reply to the no-confidence motion on Thursday at 4:00 PM.

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah addresses Lok Sabha.

“There is not a no-confidence in the PM and this government in the country…This no-confidence motion has been brought only to create a delusion”

“UPA’s character is to indulge in corruption to save their government: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on no-confidence motion debate in Lok Sabha.”

“After Independence, PM Modi’s govt is only there which won the trust of most of the people. PM Modi is the most popular leader among the public…PM Modi works tirelessly for the people of the country. He works continuously for 17 hours a day, without taking a single leave. People trust him.”

“They (UPA) keep saying that they will waive off farmers’ loans. We don’t believe in just waving off loans but in making a system where one doesn’t have to take a loan.”

“What we have given to farmers are not freebies, but we have made them self-sufficient.”

“PM Modi govt took some historic decisions and ended dynasties and graft. UPA’s character is to protect power but NDA fights to protect principle.”

“We banned PFI in the country, and conducted raids at over 90 locations in the country. Cases regarding attacks on our missions in London, Ottawa and San Francisco handed over to NIA. 26/11 Tahawwur Hussain Rana will also soon face the judiciary in India.”

“Modi government has continuously worked to make Kashmir completely free from terrorism.”

“We will talk to the youth of Kashmir valley, not Hurriyat, Jamiat and Pakistan.”

“I agree that there have been incidents of violence in Manipur. No one can support such incidents. Doing politics on these incidents is shameful.”

“I will keep old facts on the table so that people don’t have any confusion. In the past 6 years, there was no blockade or curfew in the state of Manipur. Kuki democratic fund started a freedom fight there is no fencing on the Myanmar border. They had a fight with Myanmar’s military and hence Kuki community fled and came to Manipur. We started the fencing work in 2022 and in 2023 began to maintain a record by taking thumb impressions.”

“We don’t keep mum. We are the ones who openly speak on issues I want to convey to the people that it’s a circumstantial clash and no politics should be done on it. 16 video calls were done, PM Modi was constantly on the call with me and then they say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not care about Manipur clashes.”

“Till now total 152 have been killed. In May – 105, in June- 30, in July- 15 and in August- 4, with this, I want to convey that violence is reducing so I want to request that don’t add fuel to the fire.”

“A state CM needs to be changed when he is not cooperating. This CM is operated with the Centre: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Manipur.”

  • Union Minister Smriti Irani replies to Rahul Gandhi

“You are not India, for India is not corrupt. India believes in merit not in dynasty & today of all the days people like you need to remember what was told to the British – Quit India. Corruption Quit India, Dynasty Quit India. Merit now finds place in India…”

  • Congress MP Rahul Gandhi takes part in the No-confidence motion debate.

“A few days back, I went to Manipur. Our PM didn’t go, not even to this day, because for him Manipur is not India.”

“A few days back, I went to Manipur. Our PM didn’t go, not even to this day, because for him Manipur is not India. I used the word ‘Manipur’ but the truth is that Manipur does not remain anymore. You have divided Manipur into two. You have divided and broken Manipur…” “I am going today,” he says when ruling MPs ask him when will he go to Rajasthan.

  • Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi started the debate, he said, “We are compelled to bring the No Confidence Motion. This was never about numbers but about justice for Manipur. I move the Motion that this House expresses No Confidence in the Government. I.N.D.I.A. has brought this Motion for Manipur. Manipur wants justice.”
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply to the debate on Thursday. Ahead of the no-confidence motion, PM Modi took a swipe at the I.N.D.I.A alliance called “Opposition is full of distrust and as a reflection of this, they have brought the no-confidence motion.”
  • In 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi faced a no-confidence motion initiated by the Telugu Desam Party led by Chandrababu Naidu. This motion was defeated, with the government garnering 325 votes against the motion, while only 126 votes were in favour.
  • In the current scenario, with a Lok Sabha strength of 570 and a majority threshold of 270, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is projected to secure approximately 332 votes.
