A video showing a group of people brutally assaulting a man is widely shared on social media with a communal spin. The viral clip claims that it is from a railway line in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, where people from the Muslim community are assaulting a railway gateman.
A Facebook user shared this video and wrote: “#हरदोई, यूपी: रेलवे गेटमैन को संदिग्ध मुस्लिम जिहादियों ने पीटा।उन्होंने हमले का वीडियो भी बड़े गर्व से सोशल मीडिया पर अपलोड किया. अब इनका घर भी पत्थर के ढेर में बदल दिया जायेगा बाबाजी द्वारा.” [English translation: Hardoi, UP: Railway gateman beaten by suspected Muslim Jihadis. NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Running the keyframes of the video through the Reverse Image Search, our NM team spotted the still of the viral video in a news report, dated August 13, 2023. According to the report, the viral incident took place in Hardoi’s Pihani on August 11. The victim, Saba Haider — a resident of Mahmudpur Saraiya village, accidentally hit a woman identified as Parveen. After the accident, he fled the scene leaving his bike on the spot. When he reached home, Parveen’s family members barged into the house and thrashed him.
According to a video report of UP Tak, dated August 2023, Saba Haider later headed to the market to buy goods for the shop. However, Parveen’s relatives followed Saba and brutally thrashed him again near railway crossing number 21D-2E. This incident was recorded by someone who later shared it on social media.
We also found a statement of Hardoi police on their official Twitter handle refuting the viral claim. According to the police, the incident of assault on the railway gateman is baseless.

The Divisional Railway Manager of Moradabad also tweeted from the official Twitter handle and refuted the viral claim. “This incident happened yesterday at LC 21/D bet JKH-JBG, Major section RAC-SPC. Outsiders were quarrelling themselves and came to the railway track during the tussle. There is no involvement of gateman and he performed his duty safely.”

Therefore, it can be concluded that the assault was caused by villagers after an accident. No railway gateman is involved in this case. The video has gone viral with false claims.
