New Delhi: Three tribals from the Kuki-Zo community were shot dead on Tuesday morning in Kangpopki district, Manipur, allegedly by militants associated with proscribed terrorist organizations, as per officials.
Reports indicate that the assailants arrived in a vehicle and attacked the residents between Ireng and Karam, situated in the borderlands between Imphal West and Kangpopki districts.
This village, located in the hills, is primarily inhabited by tribal communities.
This incident took place shortly after the outbreak of violence in Pallel, Tengnoupal district, where three individuals lost their lives, and more than 50 others sustained injuries on September 8.
Manipur has been experiencing frequent conflicts between the Meitei majority and the tribal Kukis since May 3, resulting in a death toll exceeding 160 individuals up to this point.
Meiteis make up approximately 53 percent of Manipur’s population and primarily inhabit the Imphal valley, whereas tribal communities, including as Nagas and Kukis, constitute 40 percent and predominantly reside in the hilly districts.
