Amid the escalating tension between India and Canada, a video has surfaced on Internet showing a man calling for ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The man in the video can be heard making four demands: recalling Canada’s ambassador to India, expelling the Indian ambassador to Canada, freezing trade negotiations between the two countries, and banning the RSS. “Together with the WSO, we today call for the immediate banning of the RSS under the listing provisions in the Criminal Code and removal of its agents from Canada,” he said.
The video is being shared on social media claiming that Canada has banned RSS.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be misleading.
Noticing a TikTok watermark on the video, ‘@nccmuslims’, our NM team traced a clip on Internet (since TikTok is banned in India), which was originally posted by the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM).
Digging further, we found the extended version of the video on the YouTube channel of NCCM, dated September 20, 2023, and the man in the video is Stephen Brown, CEO of NCCM.
The video in question can be seen from 05:10 to 05:54.
According to the ‘About Us‘ section of the NCCM website, NCCM is an ‘independent, non-partisan and non-profit organisation built from within the Canadian Muslim community’.
There has been no evidence of NCCM’s affiliation with the Canadian government.
Also, there has been no formal notification from the Canadian foreign ministry on the banning of RSS.
Hence, the viral post, claiming that Canada has banned RSS, is misleading.
