The star opening batsman was in Chennai, where he received treatment for dengue and was unable to participate in India’s initial two matches of the tournament against Australia and Afghanistan.
Earlier on Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that talented opener Shubman Gill will stay in Chennai and will not travel with the squad for the Men in Blue’s ODI World Cup clash against Afghanistan.
In Gill’s absence, the left-handed batsman Ishan Kishan opened the batting alongside Rohit Sharma in two crucial matches for the Indian team. India emerged victorious in both encounters against Australia and Afghanistan.
However, the Indian team would be hoping to include Gill in the playing 11, as the star batsman has demonstrated remarkable consistency with the bat in white-ball cricket over the past year. He has notched up multiple centuries at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which is the venue for the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan.
Gill has dominated the ODI batting charts this year, amassing a remarkable 1230 runs with an impressive average of 72.35 and a striking strike rate of 105.03.
The stage is set for another thrilling face-off between India and Pakistan, this time at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With fans poised to fill the stands to capacity, the atmosphere promises to be nothing short of electric, creating an unforgettable backdrop for this highly anticipated match.
