New Delhi: Sadeera Samarawickrama and Pathum Nissanka’s impressive fifties paved the way for Sri Lanka’s inaugural win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Lucknow on Saturday. Sri Lanka clinched victory by five wickets against the Netherlands.
Sadeera Samarawickrama led the charge for Sri Lanka with an impressive 91 runs. Additionally, Pathum Nissanka contributed significantly with a crucial half-century to bolster the team’s performance.
Aryan Dutt secured three wickets, while Paul van Meekeren and Colin Ackermann contributed one wicket each for the Netherlands.
Earlier in the first innings, the Netherlands bounced back from a shaky start against Sri Lanka, with crucial half-centuries by Logan van Beek and Sybrand Engelbrecht. The Dutch managed to post a challenging total of 263.
