New Delhi: In a thrilling showdown at the 2023 World Cup, Australia clinched victory over New Zealand with a nail-biting last-ball win. Australia won the match by five runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Saturday.
Batting first, the Australian team put up a huge total of 389 runs against the Kiwis. David Warner’s fifty, Travis Head’s sensational century, and explosive late-inning hitting from Josh Inglis and Pat Cummins propelled them to a commanding total.
The Australian team were bowled out on 388 runs in 49.2 overs. Trent Boult and Glenn Phillips were the highest wicket-takers, each claiming three wickets. Mitchell Santner secured two wickets, while Matt Henry and James Neesham each contributed one wicket to bowl out Australia.
New Zealand displayed a valiant effort, managing to reach 383 after losing nine wickets. However, the Kiwis fell agonisingly short, missing victory by a mere five runs.
Rachin Ravindra was the highest run scorer for the New Zealand team, securing yet another century in the tournament. In addition, Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham played crucial innings, each contributing with half-centuries.
Adam Zampa claimed three wickets for the Australian side, while Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins each secured two wickets. Glenn Maxwell also made a contribution with one wicket.
