A video showing a policeman on bike being set ablaze is doing the rounds on social media claiming that ‘Hamas supporters set a police officer in London, England’.
The video is shared with a caption: “लंदन…हमास समर्थक प्रदर्शन के दौरान पुलिस के जवान को आग लगाते हमास समर्थक, यह एक ऐसी कौम है जिसे इंसानियत से कोई लेना-देना नहीं.” (English translation: London… Hamas supporters setting fire to a policeman during a pro-Hamas protest, this is a community that has nothing to do with humanity.)
Here’s the link to the above post.
FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.
The NM team found the same video had been shared by Reuters on YouTube, dated June 10, 2020, mentioning that it was from Mexico, with a title: “Mexican police officer set on fire during protests in Guadalajara.”
The same video was shared by The Sun With a title: Cop is set on fire during anti-police protests in Mexico sparked by builder ‘beaten to death’.
The video description reads: “Shocking video shows a cop being set on fire by a person protesting over allegations police in Mexico beat a builder to death after he didn’t wear a face mask. The incident was filmed in Guadalajara as locals demonstrated for Giovanni Lopez, 30, who was arrested for an ‘administrative offence’. A protester can be seen pouring flammable liquid onto an officer before setting him alight in the video recorded by journalist Mario Marlo…”
The description also mentioned that the burnt cop was injured in the protest along with five other officers. The same video was also shared by other media outlets in 2020. The reports can be seen here and here.
Also, our team could not find any credible media report to corroborate the claim that Hamas supporters set ablaze a police officer in London.
Thus, from the above fact check, it is clear that an old video from Mexico is being shared with a false claim.
