Fact Check: Did Glenn Maxwell Touch Tendulkar’s Feet? No, The Viral Image Is Photoshopped

Glenn Maxwell smashed a match-winning double-century against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023, showcasing his extraordinary batting prowess, which many cricketers praised. Meanwhile, an image of Glenn Maxwell touching former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s feet is going viral on social media. Many people on social media claim that Maxwell is paying his respects to Tendulkar after his knock against Afghanistan.

A Facebook user shared this image and wrote, “When Sachin Tendulkar came to congratulate Maxwell yesterday on the ground, the great Maxwell bowed down and touched the feet of the legend and asked for his blessings. One of the greatest moments in the history of cricket. Salute to these great cricketers.”

This Facebook post can be seen here.

It is being widely shared on Facebook and X with a similar claim.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Had Maxwell touched Sachin’s feet, it would have been reported by several media outlets. However, with an open keyword search, the NM team came across a video on ICC’s official Facebook handle showing Tendulkar interacting with Afghan Players. Tendulkar can be seen wearing the same striped T-shirt as seen in the viral video.

Getty Images carries an image of Tendulkar where he can be seen shaking hands with a man wearing Afghan cricket Jersy. Here also, the frame matches with the viral image.

Upon zooming in on the viral image, our team noticed Sachin holding someone’s hand behind Maxwell’s frame, which matched exactly with the image of Tendulkar shaking hands with the individual in the Afghan jersey. Even the creases on Tendulkar’s polo t-shirt in both the photos were same. Below you can see the comparison.

Thus, it is confirmed that the viral image is photoshopped and shared with fake claims.
