Bankura: A 23-year-old man allegedly took his own life in West Bengal’s Bankura district following India’s loss to Australia in the World Cup final, as stated by his family. The incident took place around 11 pm on Sunday near the Cinema Hall in the Beliatore police station area, according to the police.

Rahul Lohar, who used to work at a local clothing store, had taken a day off on Sunday to watch the final match. Distraught over India’s defeat to Australia, he took his own life in his room, as revealed by his brother-in-law Uttam Sur. According to Sur, there were no apparent issues in Rahul’s life aside from the emotional impact of the cricket match outcome.

His body was sent for post-mortem at Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital on Monday morning, with authorities registering a case of unnatural death.

An investigation is underway, with the police declining to comment on the cause of death.

India faced a six-wicket defeat to Australia in the World Cup title clash in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
