Alia Bhatt Becomes New Victim Of Deepfake

Date:

New Delhi: Amid growing concern and outrage over a series of deepfake videos, Alia Bhatt, along with other celebrities like Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, Katrina Kaif, and Sara Tendulkar, has become a victim of this technology.

The latest video depicts someone with Alia Bhatt’s altered face engaging in inappropriate behavior.

These deepfakes have raised significant alarms about the misuse of AI, especially in manipulating public figures, leading to widespread worry about misleading content.

To address this, the government has declared severe penalties—a fine of ₹1 lakh and up to three years of imprisonment—for creating or sharing deepfakes. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced plans to appoint an officer specifically to combat this issue and stated that existing laws have provisions to deal with deepfakes.

Moreover, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) intends to establish a platform where users can report IT rule violations related to deepfakes. The aim is to assist users in filing complaints and taking appropriate legal action, as highlighted by the Union Minister.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also highlighted the concerning misuse of AI in generating deepfake videos, emphasizing the significance of this issue.
