A video showing some girls thrashing a man with sticks has gone viral on social media. Giving the clip a communal spin, people claim that a Muslim man was thrashed by Hindu girls for molesting them.
A Facebook user shared this video and wrote, “वीडियो कहां से है पता नहीं, लेकिन यह देखकर बहुत अच्छा लगा कि #हिंदू_बेटियों ने लव #जिहादियों को सबक सिखाना शुरू कर दिया है…Love jeehad”. [English translation: Don’t know where the video is from, but it is great to see that #Hindu_daughters have started teaching a lesson to love #Jihadis…Love jihad.”

Running the video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found similar visuals in several media reports in 2018. According to a report by News18, dated December 09, 2018, the viral video is from Dharam Singh Inter College in Badka village, Uttar Pradesh. A man in Baghpat used to molest girls continuously on their way to college, making obscene remarks about them. One day the accused entered the college and continued to molest them. Enraged by this, the girl students first closed the school gate, then surrounded him and beat him with sticks.
According to reports from Navbharat Times, Times of India, OneIndia and The Quint, the accused, identified as Kapil Chauhan, is son of the manager of the school committee. After the video went viral, he was arrested by the Baghpat Police under section Section 294.
Hence, it is clear that the video shows girls thrashing an eve-teaser, who belongs to the Hindu community, with a stick in the school premises after facing continuous molestation, without any communal angle.
