Fact Check: 2014 Image From South Korea Falsely Linked To The Ongoing Israel-Hamas War

Date:

Amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, an image of a large stock of missiles is doing the rounds on social media, claiming that these weapons and equipment have been sent by America to Israel.

The post is shared with a description: “The third batch of American aid to the Palestinian children has arrived.”

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found the image to be old.

Conducting a Reverse Image Search, the NM team found the same image in a defence blog post in 2019, with a caption: “More than 80 Blu-109 and Mark-84 bombs sit on display at the Wolf Pack Munitions Storage Area, Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea, following a successful emergency destruction of munitions simulation, Oct. 23, 2014. Photo by Senior Airman Katrina Heikkinen.”

Searching further, we found the same image on the stock image website Alamy. As per the website, the image was taken in October 2014.

Therefore, it’s confirmed that the image is quite old and from South Korea, and the viral claim is misleading.
