FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be fabricated.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team identified an Instagram post, dated January 21, 2020, on the official account of Viral Bhayani — an Indian celebrity photographer and content creator. The attire of Hardik Pandya here matches with the viral video.
Searching further, we came across another Instagram post on an unverified account. This clip also matches with the viral clip, confirming that it is from November 2020. We cannot hear any slogans or chanting from the audience in the video background, unlike the viral video.
Checking for the authenticity of the audio and chanting in the viral clip, our team traced a YouTube video on an unverified account, dated January 18, 2020, with a title: MUMBAI CHA RAJA … ROHIT SHARMA🔥👑.
The audio matches exactly with the slogans heard in the viral clip. This proves that the viral audio has been superimposed on a video of Hardik Pandya from 2020. Thus, it cannot be related to the recent announcement of captaincy by Mumbai Indians.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming people shouted ‘Mumbai Cha Raja Rohit Sharma’ in front of Hardik Pandya, is false.
