New Delhi: Nayanthara and Jai’s recent film ‘Annapoorani’ is facing controversy for alleged disrespect to religious sentiments and promoting ‘Love Jihad.’ The trouble arose due to a contentious comment about Lord Ram in the movie, leading to an FIR filed in Mumbai by Ramesh Solanki.
The film, titled ‘Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food,’ is currently available on Netflix and is directed by debutant Nilesh Krishnaa. Ramesh Solanki, in his statement on X, accused the movie of promoting ‘Love Jihad’ and claimed it has offended ‘Hindu sentiments.’
The complaint targets Nayanthara, Jai, Nilesh, and producers Jatin Sethi, R Ravindran, and Punit Goenka, along with Shariq Patel, Chief Business Officer of Zee Studios, and Monika Shergill, the head of Netflix India.
‘Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food’ depicts Nayanthara as an aspiring chef participating in the reality show ‘India’s Best Chef,’ despite her mother’s warnings. The film, jointly produced by Jatin Sethi and R Ravindran, also features Jai, Sathyaraj, Redin Kingsley, Suresh Chakravarthy, Renuka, and KS Ravikumar. Thaman S composed the music, and Sathyan Sooryan served as the cinematographer.
Nayanthara, for her role, received training from a professional chef, and the movie marks her reunion with Jai after their 2013 film ‘Raja Rani.’
