Fact Check: Viral Screenshot In Support Of Protesting Farmers Falsely Attributed To Singer Diljit Dosanjh

Date:

As farmers — predominantly from Punjab, along with counterparts from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh — have been protesting for MSP, a screenshot of a tweet purported by Punjabi pop singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has surfaced on social media in support of the protesting farmers.

(English translation: “I wish if educated people had also come on the streets like farmers, then neither the airport would have been sold, nor the railway station, nor jobs would have been lost, nor would the GDP have fallen.”)

The above post can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post, and found it to be misleading.

Searching the X handle @diljitdosanjhi seen in the viral post, we discovered that this handle no longer exists.

Further, we noticed an extra ‘i’ at the end of the X-handle (@diljitdosanjhi) in the viral tweet. Checking the official X-handle of Diljit Dosanjh (@diljitdosanjh), we found no extra ‘i’ in the end. Even the Advanced Search feature fails to find any such post

It is to be noted that while Dosanjh expressed his support for the farmers during their 2021 protest, at the time of the filing of this fact-check report, he had not posted anything about the ongoing farmers’ protest.

Hence, with the above findings, it can be concluded that the screenshot of the tweet in question is falsely linked to Diljit Dosanjh.
