Recently, a video showing EVMs inside a car went viral on social media claiming that the electronic voting machines (EVMs) were found in Haryana’s Panipat.
The post reads: #हरियाणा के #पानीपत में नकली ईवीएम मशीनों की धरपकड़। #EVM_हटाओ_देश_बचाओ (English translation: Fake EVM machines caught in #Panipat, Haryana. #Remove_EVM_Save_Country)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be old.
Running the video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found that the same video shared on Facebook in May 2019.
Another report by Dainik Tribune, dated February 21, 2024, states that the video is old and Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer has directed the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Panipat, to take prompt action against the culprits.
Also, the official account of the Information, Public Relations, Languages & Culture Department, Govt of Haryana, has denied the claim. The post mentioned that this video was circulated during the 2019 assembly elections, too. And the district election officer had written a letter to the Superintendent of Police, Panipat, asking to register a case against the person who uploaded the video on YouTube and take action to get the video removed from YouTube.
Thus, we can conclusively say that an outdated clip has gone viral as recent.
