After the Modi go announced the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in India, a purported screenshot of a post by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif started making the rounds on social media. The post mentions that in retaliation to India’s CAA, Pakistan will also bring a similar law, under which Muslims from India can get Pakistan’s citizenship.
The post reads: “To counter Indian Govt’s undemocratic and communal CAA, the Govt of Pakistan has decided to notify Pakistan’s own CAA, in which Muslims who feel persecuted in India will be given the citizenship of Pakistan.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be fake.
The NM team found that the viral screenshot was taken on March 11, 2024, at 7:46 pm. Checking the Official X account of Shehbaz Sharif, we confirmed that the most recent post from his account was made on March 10.
In the post, he thanks the prime minister of Maldives for winning the election.
The archival site Wayback Machine of Sharif’s account does not carry any such post, dated March 11. There is also no credible media report to corroborate the viral post. Thus, from the above post, it is clear that the viral screenshot is fake.
