On April 1, an airstrike destroyed the consular section of Iran’s embassy in Damascus, Syria. Iran has accused Israel of carrying out the strike, which reportedly killed 13 people, including Iran’s Quds Force Brigadier, General Mohammad Reza Zahedi. The Quds Force is an overseas branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Following this incident, a video showing a huge explosion in a city at night has been circulating on social media suggesting that Iran has launched heavy missile attacks on Tel Aviv, causing heavy bombardment and fires. The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “BREAKING NEWS #Iran started attack Tel Aviv with heavy missiles Tel Aviv is now under heavy bombardment, and fires are burning. Buildings have been destroyed. #WW3 Iran successfully kills Israrli armed militants killing women and children. Iran eliminates hundreds of Israeli terrorists. Example of how Israeli baseless lies work”.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Running the screenshots of the viral video through Reverse Image Search, the NM team found the longer version of the same clip uploaded on the official YouTube channel of The Telegraph, dated March 24, 2024. According to the report, the video shows huge explosions in the Crimean port of Sevastopol after a Ukrainian missile attack.
As per the video description, the Ukrainian military stated that it had hit two Russian warships and other facilities of the Russian navy in Black Sea. “The defence forces have successfully hit the Yamal and Azov landing ships, a communications centre, and several infrastructure facilities belonging to the Russian Black Sea Fleet,” a Ukrainian military spokesman said.
We also found screengrabs from the viral video in several media reports. According to Ukrainska Pravda, a Ukrainian online newspaper, about 10 explosions were heard in Sevastopol on March 23. The strikes targeted Kozacha Bay, where the permanent base of Russia’s 810th Marine Brigade is located.
Numerous YouTube news channels reported on the incident, stating that it occurred in Sevastopol, Crimea, and involved a Ukrainian missile strike.
Also, it is important to note that despite Iran’s threats against Israel following the April 1 attack, there have been no reports of retaliatory attacks from Iran at the time of this report.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral video claiming Iran has launched attacks on Israel is old.
