In a video, widely circulated on social media, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is seen in an office surrounded by media personnel, reading a statement from a sheet of paper. Gandhi is heard speaking in Hindi, stating: “I, Rahul Gandhi, hereby resign from the Congress party. I can no longer pretend to be Hindu for the sake of elections. After the ‘Nyay Yatra’, I released the ‘Nyay Patra‘ as well, but Modi ji is sending corrupt people to jail. This Modi Raj (rule), will send us corrupt people to jail, too, so I am going to my maternal grandfather’s house in Italy.”
If he is, then it’s a good thing. Congress might benefit. #bjpmembership #modi #rahulgandhi)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
After conducting a reverse image search on Google using certain keyframes from the viral video, the NM team discovered a post on X by The Hindu — a media outlet, dated April 3, 2024, with a caption: “Congress leader #RahulGandhi submitting nomination papers to #Wayanad district collector Renu Raj on Wednesday.”
With a keyword search for Rahul Gandhi filing his nomination in Wayanad, we came across a YouTube video shared by the verified Indian National Congress handle, dated April 3, with a title: “Rahul Gandhi files nomination from Wayanad (राहुल गांधी से वायनाड से भरा नामांकन in Hindi).” In this video, Gandhi can be heard stating, “I, Rahul Gandhi, having been nominated as a candidate to fill a seat in the house of the people do solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established and that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of the country.”
In the original video, there is no instance of Gandhi announcing his resignation, contrary to what was claimed in the viral video.
According to the AI detector, the viral audio was created using AI tool by 58 per cent.
Therefore, we can firmly state that an altered video, incorporating AI-generated audio, is being circulated to assert that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resigned from the party before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
