Fact Check: Viral Screenshot Of Dainik Bhaskar’s Pre-poll Survey, Predicting INDIA Bloc To Lead In 10 States, Is Fabricated

Date:

Just ahead of the first phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a screenshot purportedly from the April 13 edition of the Hindi newspaper Dainik Bhaskar began circulating on social media, claiming a pre-poll survey that predicted the INDIA bloc’s lead in 10 states and a complete washout of the National Democratic Alliance from the southern states.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Dainik Bhaskar-Nelson Survey: In 10 states INDIA alliance is leading & could cross 200 in these 10 states alone. Even in the Hindi heartland states, Modi’s image is insufficient to get votes for the BJP. NDA is looking at washout from Bihar, Bengal & Maharashtra”.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Going through the Google keyword search, the NM team noticed that the Hindi word “India” was misspelled in the viral screenshot of the Dainik Bhaskar newspaper, which was purportedly from the Bhopal edition, dated April 13, 2024. We were able to find the e-paper from that date. But there was no election survey report, predicting the INDIA bloc’s lead, in the Dainik Bhaskar newspaper on that specific day. Instead, the front page has featured a BJP advertisement and a report about Bhopal’s rainfall.

Additionally, on its website and official social media accounts, Dainik Bhaskar had officially declared that the screenshot was fake.

Thus, it is confirmed that the viral screenshot claiming to be Dainik Bhaskar’s survey predicting the INDIA bloc leading in 10 states is fake.
