IPL 2024: Shreyas, Salt Power KKR To 222/6 Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Kolkata: A half-century by Shreyas Iyer, coupled with an explosive innings from Philip Salt, propelled Kolkata Knight Riders to 222/6 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Contributions from Rinku and Russell provided crucial support to KKR’s pursuit of a 200-plus score. In the end, Ramandeep Singh’s stellar innings proved pivotal, adding the extra 10-15 runs that gave KKR a significant boost.

The last two overs of the first inning have been costly for the RCB bowlers, as Siraj gifted 20 runs in the 19th over. While Dayal gave 16 runs in the last overs. On the other hand, Dayal and Green picked up two wickets in their respective spells. While Siraj and Ferguson scalped one wicket each.

Earlier, RCB skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first against Shreyas Iyer-led KKR. After winning the toss RCB skipper Faf du Plessis said, “We will chase. This is probably a chasing ground, always has been. I’m a fan of abetting first when it’s really hot, but the temperature did drop after an hour or so yesterday, unlike in Mumbai or Chennai where it stays very hot. The batting is so strong that a general score or 60-70 isn’t considered great. We have three changes – Green and Siraj come back, so does Mayank Dagar. We know if we do a few things back, the momentum can be back and we do have the firepower.”

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer said, “Last afternoon game here, we know how the wicket plays, we would have loved to bowl as well. It’s stiflingly hot and we’ll look to make them as tired as possible. We’ve tried to keep things simple, it’s not about how you start, it’s about how you end, just stick to the basics. We are playing the same team. It’s important to assess the conditions and execute our plans, then it’ll go in our favour.”
