A video of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi’s speech is widely circulating on social media. Many users claim that the AAP leader apologised for saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’ after objections from Muslims during her speech.
A Facebook user posted the video with a caption: (English translation: Till now, in West Bengal itself, you might have seen secular insects taking objection to the chanting of Jai Shri Ram. But now the number of such secular insects is increasing in Delhi also. Delhi’s Education Minister Atishi Marlena in the newly built school of Shri Ram Colony in her area said Jai Shri Ram. Immediately a crowd of peace-loving people got up and started creating ruckus asking why did you say Jai Shri Ram? Then Atishi apologised that she would not say Jai Shri Ram anymore. Amazing #brotherhood)

Fact Check
NewsMobile fact checked the claim, and found it to be misleading.
Listening to the viral speech of Atishi carefully, the NM team found that there was no mention of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ chants. People can be heard objecting, saying: “This is Shriram Colony’s school.” In response to this, Atishi corrects herself and says, “I want to apologise to the residents of Shriram Colony, this is the school of Shriram Colony, where the children of Shree Ram Colony, Khajuri Khas, Karawal Nagar, and Sonia Vihar will also study.”
Running a keyword on Atishi speech at Shri Ram Colony School, we found the full speech from a different angle on the Directorate of Education GNCT of Delhi YouTube channel, dated March 9, 2024, with a title: ‘Inauguration of a grand school in North East Delhi, Sarvodaya Kanya/Bal Vidyalaya, Khajoori Khas.’
As per the video, Atishi was giving a speech during an ‘Inauguration of New School Building in North East Delhi.
Our team thoroughly examined the entire speech and found that at the 40:30 minute mark, Atishi mentioned the Khajuri Khas school, after which some attendees objected. An individual can be seen approaching the AAP leader from behind and correcting her. In response, Atishi clarified her statement, saying, “I want to apologise to the residents of Shriram Colony, this is the school of Shriram Colony, where the children of Shree Ram Colony, Khajuri Khas, Karawal Nagar, and Sonia Vihar will also study.” Additionally, we could not find any mention of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ chants in the entire speech.
Thus, it is confirmed that the video in question does not show the AAP leader apologising for saying Jai Shree Ram. Therefore, the viral claim is False.
