Maximum City goes 24×7! Cabinet approves ‘Mumbai 24 hrs’ policy

Date:

Mumbai will now remain open 24×7 from January 27 as the Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday approved its ‘Mumbai 24 hours’ policy.

One can now get access to malls, multiplexes and shops 24 hours in the non-residential areas like Bandra Kurla Complex in the city that never sleeps.

Briefing media after the Cabinet meeting, Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray said: “Proposal of Mumbai 24×7 has been approved by the cabinet today. From January 27 malls, multiplexes, shops and eateries in non-residential areas like Bandra Kurla Complex and Nariman Point will remain open 24×7. However, we won’t impose this on anyone.”

Thackeray made it clear that pubs and bars are excluded from the purview of this plan. Thackeray said that the government’s decision could help generate more revenue and jobs

“I never said anything about pubs and bars,” he said. “I am not forcing anyone to implement this policy. Whoever wants to comply will do it. This move will increase jobs for people and revenue for the government,” he said.

However, the opposition BJP has slammed the government’s move saying the nightlife will kill life in Mumbai.

Senior BJP leader Ashish Shelar had earlier demanded that the Maharashtra government spell out the rules and regulations being formulated to implement the nightlife policy in Mumbai.
