COVID-19: Karnataka mulling opening up of gyms, golf courses after May 17

The Karnataka government is mulling giving a nod to reopen gyms, fitness centres and golf courses after May 17. A final view, however, will be taken after looking into fresh lockdown guidelines issued by Centre. This was announced by the State Tourism Minister CT Ravi after meeting Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.

CT Ravi who is also the Sports Minister of the state said: “I met CM BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday and discussed opening of fitness centres, golf courses, hotels and restaurants and sought his permission. The CM responded positively and said he will give permission to open gyms after looking into the fresh lockdown guidelines of the centre”.

He apprised the CM of the difficulties being faced by sportspersons with respect to their fitness regime.

Even temples and other places of worship may be permitted to reopen. However, a strict safety and health protocol will be issued by the State government and this will need to be strictly adhered to.

The protocol will be issued after the Union Government finalizes the guidelines to enforce Lockdown 4.0.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his last address to the nation, had said that Lockdown 4.0 will be different and will have new rules. The views of the State governments are being ascertained after which new guidelines will be issued.
