Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli finds himself in the Conflict of Interest as he reportedly invested in the online gaming platform – Mobile Premier League (MPL).
MPL is the present BCCI’s official kit sponsor and merchandise partner. According to a report in The Indian Express, Kohli was allotted Compulsory Convertible Debentures (CCDs) worth over Rs 32 lakhs in Galactus Funware Technology Private Limited, a Bengaluru-headquartered company, which owns the online gaming platform – MPL. Galactus is a subsidiary of M-League Pte Ltd, a company registered in Singapore in April 2018.

On November 17, 2020, BCCI announced MPL Sports as the new kit sponsor and official merchandise partner for the Indian cricket team.
While Kohli has been endorsing MPL for quite some time, he was appointed brand ambassador of the gaming platform in January last year.
MPL currently has a three-year deal with BCCI and the brand’s logo is being sported by the Indian team in their ongoing tour of Australia. The women’s team and the U-19 Indian side will also have the MPL logo on their jerseys.
