A video of a man being assaulted by a mob is doing rounds on social media with a claim that the victim is Syed Waseem Rizvi, former chairman of UP Shia Waqf Board.
It should be noted that Waseem Rizvi recently made headlines after he moved the Supreme Court seeking removal of 26 verses from the Holy Quran.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be misleading.
We extracted keyframes from the video and ran them through Reverse Image Search.
The search led us to a report by The Tribune, India, dated March 27, 2021, featuring the same video. “BJP MLA Arun Narang thrashed, stripped; Capt Amarinder promises action,” the headline of the report read.
According to the report, farmers protesting over the three new farm laws, allegedly thrashed Arun Narang, BJP MLA from Abohar, tore his clothes and threw black ink on him in Malout town of Punjab on March 27, 2021.
Pictures of the same incident were also tweeted by ANI on March 28.
“Punjab: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Abohar Arun Narang was thrashed allegedly by protesting farmers in Malout yesterday. An FIR has been registered at Malout Police Station,” the tweet read.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Muktsar Police arrested 4 persons and booked 27 people in this connection.
This proves that the video in circulation does not show Syed Waseem Rizvi.
