A picture of a man consoling a boy from inside a police van is doing rounds on social media. It is being claimed that his name was not on the Assam’s citizen list therefore he is being taken away to a detention camp.
A user shared the post with a caption, “যারা বি.জে.পি.র হয়ে মিটিংয়ে যাচ্ছেন এবং ভোট দিতেচান তাদেরকে বলছি, ছবিতে যাকে দেখছেন জালঘেরা গাড়িতে ২০১৬ আসামের নির্বাচনে ইনি ও আপনার মত মোদী আমিত শা র হয়ে,প্রচার করে বি.জে.পি.কে ক্ষমতায় এনেছিলো, তারপর অসমে যে নাগরিক দের নামের তালিকা প্রকাশ হয়,,, পরিবারের অন্য সদস্যদের নাম থাকলেও তার নামটা বাদ যায় । আসামের পুলিশ তাকে ডিটেনশন ক্যাম্পে তুলে নিয়ে যাবার সময় করুন মুহূর্ত , বাবা এবং ছেলের ।,,,,,, কে জানে বাঙলায় যদি বি.জে.পি ক্ষমতায় আসে এই অবস্থা আপনার সঙ্গে ও ঘটতে পারে ।আপনি যতই বি. জে.পি করুন না কেন”

We ran a Reverse Image Search on the picture and found the picture published by NBC News on August 30, 2012. The headline of the report read, ‘32 convicted in Naroda Patiya massacre’.
As per the description, the picture shows a convict consoling his son while being taken to prison after a court verdict in the 2002 religious violence case in Ahmedabad. The court on August 29, 2012, found 32 people guilty of charges ranging from murder to rioting for their part in the violence.
Further, we found the same picture published by the Associated Press Images dated August 30, 2012. The title of the picture read, “Aptopix India Religious Riots”.
The description of the picture mentioned that the picture was taken in Gujarat on August 29, 2012.
Hence, based on the above information, we can say that the picture from Gujarat is being shared with a false claim.
