Fact Check: No, Poison Is NOT Being Added In COVID-19 Vaccine; Viral Claim Is FAKE

Date:

A message has gone viral on social media claiming that 5.6 ml of poison is being added per 20 ml of COVID-19 vaccine, which is enough to kill someone. In this viral message, coronavirus is also being described as a common cold and flu.

The excerpts of the message being shared on Facebook read, “कोरोना बेक्सीन जो है , उसमें प्रति २०ml पर 5.6ml जहर मिलाया जाता है जो आपको आपकी मृत्यु तक ले जाने के लिए काफी है…कोरोनावायरस एक साधारण सर्दी -जुकाम एक हल्का फ्लू बनकर रह गया है”

(Translation: The corona vaccine, which contains 5.6ml of poison per 20ml, is enough to make you die… Coronavirus has now become a common cold and mild flu.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be fake.

There are mainly two claims in this viral message. The first claim is that poison is added to COVID-19 vaccine and the second claim is that coronavirus has become just another mild flu-like common cold.

Claim 1

According to the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as of May 8, 2021,  ‘16,73,46,544 vaccine’ doses have been administered.

From the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section of COVID-19 Vaccination on this website, it is clearly outlined that Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has approved emergency use of two vaccines in India i.e. Covishield and Covaxin.

We began gathering information about Covishield and Covaxin. Both vaccine manufacturers have given complete information about their vaccines on their respective websites. The ingredients used in the vaccines are also mentioned. This information can be seen below, respectively.

Thus, it is clear that the claim about the COVID-19 vaccine containing poison is FAKE.

Claim 2

We found an article published by Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in which they talked about similarities and differences between flu and COVID-19.

According to the article, both of these are infectious respiratory diseases, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by infection with a new novel coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2) and flu is caused by infection with influenza viruses.

Earlier, NewsMobile has also debunked the claim that COVID-19 is ‘just a flu’.

https://newsmobile.in/articles/2021/04/05/fact-check-dont-fall-for-this-video-that-propagates-blatant-lies-about-covid-19-heres-the-truth/

Thus, the claim stating that COVID-19 has become like mild flu or common cold is also misleading.

To sum up, we can say that both the claims being made in the viral post are false.
