Fact Check: 2020 Video Of PFI Unity March Viral With False Claim

Date:

A video purportedly of ‘Muslim Private army marching in Kerala’ is being shared on social media platforms widely.

The video is being shared with the caption, “Muslim Private Army marching in Kerala. Left front government is a silent spectator. Where is the nation heading? Do you shiver or rage watching this Video? God Save Bharat.”

Here’s the link to the above post. It is being shared extensively on Facebook.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

We extracted keyframes of the video and ran them through Reverse Image Search along with the keyword search. The search led us to the same video uploaded on YouTube on February 20, 2020, with the title, “PFI Unity March | Popular Front Day 2020 | Be the Sentinel of Freedom | Popular Front of India.”

We then ran a keyword search and found that a video, with similar visuals, was also uploaded by the official YouTube channel of Popular Front of India on February 17, 2020.

Upon searching further, we also found that the march was covered by the media outlet Madhyamam in 2020. The report mentioned that the march is connected to that Popular Front Day as the organization officially came out on February 17, 2007, at Empower India Conference held in Bangalore.

We also found a report by Coastal Digest dated January 2013 where it was mentioned that ‘The National Executive Council of Popular Front of India has declared February 17 as Popular Front Day’.

Hence, from the above Fact Check, it is clear that the viral video is old and is being shared with a false claim.
