Smriti Irani Sends Legal Notice To Congress Leaders Over Remarks On Daughter

Date:

New Delhi: Union minister Smriti Irani sent a legal notice to Congress leaders Pawan Khera, Jairam Ramesh, and Netta D’ Souza on Sunday.

This comes a day after she denied the allegations against her 18-year-old daughter over an “illegal bar” in Goa.

Irani has asked the leaders to tender “a written unconditional apology” and withdraw the allegations with immediate effect.

Smriti Irani’s lawyer sent the notice to Congress and its leaders, on her behalf.

As per reports, the minister’s notice reads, “The false allegations were intended to hurt the reputation of our client as a minister and a person in public life, and also to outrage her modesty and that of her daughter.”

“The insistence of addressees to invoke value systems of our client with a reference to her ‘sanskar’ is an effort to make our client and her young daughter social outcasts by proclaiming that by the act of ‘running’ a bar our client and her young daughter are women of disrepute,” it said.

The notice affirmed that Zoish Irani, the minister’s daughter, has never been involved in “running” a bar in Goa.

Union Minister Smriti Irani slammed Congress and accused them of targeting her because she questioned Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the Rs 5,000 crore loot of the Indian treasury and contested election against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in 2014 and 2019.
