Watch | Queen Elizabeth II death: 96 Royal Gun Salutes To Mark Each Year Of Her Life

Date:

London: A gun salute of 96 rounds took place across the UK on Friday, to mark each year of Queen Elizabeth II’s life.

96 shots were fired from Hyde Park and the Tower of London in the capital, Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland, and Cardiff Castle in Wales, as well as the Channel Islands and Gibraltar.

Every round was fired every 10 seconds, with 96 rounds representing one round for every year of The Queen’s life.

The salute will last approximately 16 minutes.

“This follows the British tradition of firing one round for each year of Her Majesty’s life,” Defence said, adding that the public will be permitted to view the gun salute from the forecourt of Parliament House “beyond an exclusion zone.”

Following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on Thursday India observes state mourning on Sunday.
