Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi, along with Foreign Minister, Hossain Amirabdullahian, recently died in a helicopter crash on May 19, 2024. Against this backdrop, a picture showing a black turban stuck on top of a tall tree is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim it is the cap that was usually worn by Raisi.
A Facebook user posted the viral post (Archive link) with the following caption: কি নির্মম চিত্র। ইব্রাহিম রাইসির পাগড়ী গাছের মাথায়। এটা থেকে একটা শিক্ষা মুসলমান কখনো কারো কাছে মাথা নত করে না (English translation: What a brutal picture. On the head of Ibrahim Raisi’s turban tree. A lesson from this Muslim never bow down to anyone.)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral picture, the NM team identified a picture on Pinterest showing Sequoioideae or redwood trees. The image matches with the viral post except for the cap on top of the trees, suggesting that the latter might be edited.
Searching further, we came across the same image on Wikipedia, dated May 9, 2010. Here too, we can see that there is no cap on top of the trees, confirming that it has been edited.
Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show a photo of dead Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi’s cap stuck to a tree at the crash site, is fake.
