Kerala: Two Killed, Multiple Injured In Multiple Explosions At Prayer Meeting

New Delhi: Kerala authorities are on high alert after a series of explosions disrupted a Jehovah’s Witness Sunday prayer event near Kochi. The explosions have left Two dead and around two dozen others injured, with some in critical condition.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the media the incident was unfortunate, and the police have taken it very seriously.

“It’s a very unfortunate incident. We are collecting details regarding the incident. All top officials are there in Ernakulam. DGP is moving to the spot. We are taking it very seriously. I have spoken to DGP. We need to get more details after the investigation,” said Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. 

Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Sunday directed all hospitals to alert health workers, who are on leave, to return immediately. 

The explosions took place at a gathering of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the Zamra International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Kalamassery. Approximately 2,500 members from various parts of Kerala had assembled for a prayer session when the incident took place.

The convention centre has been cordoned off, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the source of the blasts. High-ranking police personnel have swiftly arrived at the scene and placed the entire Kerala police force on heightened vigilance.
