India condemns attack on Paris media office

Date:

New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday  strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a media office in Paris and expressed anguish over the loss of innocent lives.

“Terror and violence have no place in any corner of the world.  The world community must unite to root out terror from every country and society,” a statement from the President’s office said.

Mukherjee also conveyed his condolences to the families of the bereaved and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also denounced the attack, terming it as “condemnable and despicable” act, and said India’s solidarity is with the people of France.

The Prime Minister took to twitter to express his views on the matter. “Condemnable & despicable attack in Paris,” Modi tweeted as gunmen opened fire in the offices of French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in Paris.

“Our solidarity (is) with people of France. My thoughts are with families of those who lost their lives,” the Prime Minister added.

Earlier in the day, gunmen entered the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and opened fire. According to reports, 12 people, including two police officers were killed in the attack, with five others seriously wounded.

Charlie Hebdo has reportedly been facing threats after it published a series of cartoon depicting Prophet Muhammad.
