New Edn Policy to give boost Sanskrit, Indian languages:

Javadekar New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) All Indian languages includingSanskrit, will get a boost under the New Education Policy(NEP) that the government is working on, HRD Minister PrakashJavadekar said today. "The policy of the Indian government is that there shouldbe development of all Indian languages. Sometimes I feel, thatmore than the British, we have anglicised our country in thelast 50-60 years. However, English too is a good language," hesaid. Javadekar was speaking at the inauguration of an eventunder which over a dozen institutions including the RashtriyaSanskrit Sansthan, would hold week-long contests and otheractivities in schools to promote Sanskrit. On the New Education Policy (NEP), he said the previouscommissions had rightfully given a prominent place toSanskrit. "We are also moving towards NEP and there was a debate inParliament. Nobody opposed the development of Indian languagesbecause through it we can promote our culture. All Indianlanguages have their speciality," he said . He said the world over, universities have Sanskrit and thehigh quality literature and works in it, he said. The HRD minister said that many school students opted forSanskrit as it is considered a scoring subject. No matter what the motivation, it is good it is beingstudied, he said. The government has put in public a draft of inputs on NEPand has sought a feedback. PTI ADSSC
