Sheila Dikshit resigns as Kerala Governor

Date:

New Delhi: Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday resigned as the governor of Kerala. It comes just hours after the government appointed new governor for four states including Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

She had met President Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday.

Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan, too, had resigned paving the way for new appointments. Sankaranarayanan was among the first batch of governors telephoned by Home Secretary Anil Goswami to put in their papers after change of government at the Centre.

The NDA government had sacked Mizoram Governor Kamla Beniwal, who was formerly the Gujarat governor and had a running battle with Narendra Modi when he was the chief minister.

Virendra Kataria, a former Congress leader, was also sacked as Puducherry Lt-Governor in July.
