The Prince of Cricket

Date:

Ishant Sharma’s performance at Lord’s was decisive for India’s victory after he tore through the English defence who lost by 95 runs.

Known for his long, locky and lanky looks, the Delhiite is one of the fastest bowlers India has produced, breaching the 150 km/hr many-a-times, his fastest being a delivery at 152 km/hr.

In 2011, he became the fifth youngest player to take 100 Test wickets. Against South Africa in 2013, Ishant Sharma became the fifth quickest Indian to grab 100 ODI wickets.

A right-arm pacer, Ishant’s form has been rather inconsistent. However, he emerged as an unlikely hero when India beat England in the second Investec Test, ripping into the middle and lower order and claiming seven scalps to seal the deal for the Indians.

Early life

Ishant Vijay Sharma, not very famous by his middle name, was born on September 2, 1988 in New Delhi. That’s where he grew up and picked up the game, which he eventually went on to make a career out of.

Career

He made his ODI debut in 29 June 2007 against South Africa, making him the 169th ODI player. His Test debut was against Bangladesh on 25 May 2007. His domestic cricket has been successful more or less. He made his T20 debut on Feb 1 2008, against Australia. Ishant plays for Delhi in domestic cricket and has taken 68 wickets in 14 first-class games, including a five-wicket haul against Baroda.

He’s also pretty much a part of the Indian Premier League, and he started off with a stint for Kolkata Knight Riders from 2008 to 2010 and has been with Deccan Chargers and then Sunrisers Hyderabad since then.

In 57 Test matches, he has 515 runs and 174 wickets, while in 72 ODIs, he has 72 runs and 102 wickets. In his 14 T20I appearances, he has 8 runs and 8 wickets to his name.

Achievements

He has two Man-of-the-Match Awards in Tests and three in ODIs.
