Intel announces new Core X processor lineup for enthusiasts

On Monday, Intel announced a new line of Core X desktop processors at Computex. The Core X models are significantly more powerful versions of the existing Core i5 and i7 models and also includes a brand new Core i9 processor, which will become Intel’s top-of-the-line processor.

The newly launched Core X processors is aimed at enthusiast PC consumers, particularly gamers and content creators. The processors will allow consumers to run multiple programs at one time, such as running a game and streaming program.

The Core i5-7640X is the entry level Core X processor starting at $242 and features 4 cores and 4 threads. The Core i7 X processors come in two variants: the 4 core, 8 thread model coming in at $339 and a 10 core, 20 thread model priced at $599.

The newly announced Core i9 processors offer consumers raw power with four models being offered. The range starts from a $999, 12 core, 24 thread processor to a $1699, 16 core, 32 thread processor. Intel will also offer an 18 core, 36 thread processor, known as the Core i9 Extreme, priced at $1999.

The new desktop Core X processors have been designed to work with Intel’s new X299 motherboard chipset, which will release along with the processors in the coming weeks. The Core X processors will also feature Intel’s upgraded Turbo Boost technology, known as Turbo Boost 3.0.

At the announcement, Intel also provided a brief update on its 8th generation processors, codenamed Coffee Lake. Intel has announced that the new generation processors have achieved a 30 percent improvement over the previous generation.
