Subramanium withdraws from the race for SC judge

Date:

New Delhi: Former Solicitor-General of India and senior lawyer Gopal Subramanium has withdrawn his candidature for appointment as a Supreme Court judge. In a letter written to Cheif Justice of India, Subramaniam wrote, “I am fully conscious that my independence as a lawyer is causing apprehensions that I will not toe the government line. This factor has been decisive in refusing to appoint me.”

He has alleged that there is a malicious campaign that is on to discredit him. “It is sad day as the Judiciary has been compromised. All charges against me are false,” he claimed.

There has been a face-off between the Narendra Modi government and Gopal Subramanium as he was upset with the negative stories being planted against him in the media.
